ISSN 0001-5555 Lupus erythematosus profundus (LEP) is a rare clinical feature of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE), characterized by multiple hard subcutaneous induration with panniculitis as the main clinical manifestations of the disease. We describe here two cases of LEP with solitary hard induration extending over a wide area of the back. Both cases showed fibrin thrombosis of the subcutaneous vessels and positive test results for anti-phospholipid antibody. Based on these findings, we thought that the thrombosis associated with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) was responsible for the peculiar clinical findings in our cases.

Libman-Sacks endocarditis in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus with secondary antiphospholipid syndrome
Background: Libman-Sacks endocarditis (LSE) is characterized by sterile lesions that commonly affect the aortic and mitral heart valves. Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have been associated with LSE. Cardiac manifestations including LSE could be interrelated with other manifestations and early diagnosis could help in preventing further complications. Case...
متن کاملPyoderma gangrenosum in a patient with antiphospholipid antibody negative systemic lupus erythematosus: A case report
In any description of leg ulcers in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) earns a mention at least for its being quite rare in such patients. The causative role of aPL (antiphospholipid antibody) in dermatological manifestations of SLE is undermined by the occurrence of PG in aPL negative SLE patients. To the best of our knowledge, there are only two reports of PG in aPL...

A 20-year-old woman was admitted to a Gynecology Hospital in her 6th month of pregnancy for high blood pressure and tonic-clonic seizure. Primary diagnosis was eclampsia, and for that reason she underwent cesarean section. She also had headache on frontal and parietal areas without nausea or vomiting. There was not a focal neurological sign. Rheumatology consultation was requested. Systemic lup...
متن کاملPhlegmasia cerulea dolens in patient with systemic lupus erythematosus in the remote postpartum period.
Vascular manifestations are not rare in systemic lupus erythematosus and, in most cases, are associated with antiphospholipid antibodies. Phlegmasia cerulea dolens is an unusual and severe complication of deep venous thrombosis of the lower limbs, which has a high mortality rate. In the literature, only two cases of phlegmasia cerulea dolens associated with primary antiphospholipid syndrome hav...

Anetoderma is a rare cutaneous disease characterized by a loss of normal elastic tissue that is presented clinically as localized areas of wrinkled or flaccid skin. This form may be associated with several immunological abnormalities, most notably lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid antibodies with or without clinical manifestations of the antiphospholipid syndrome. A retrospective study w...
